Things can have many Faces, iMac Generations | Digital Life
iMac G3 CRT (ugly green)
Not like Windows Driven Machines, Macintosh Systems can keep the Pourpose they have for quite a long time, without need of Upgrading, Reinstalling, Format harddiscs or other useless and time consuming events
my iMac G3 (same as the Green one on the picture) is still doing his job as file and Webserver at my home very very well. the only upgrades this machine has faced, since it was build in 2001, was a new CD-RW Drive, OS X (10.3.9) and a IDE cable to connect external Harddiscs.
it still running well on 750 Mhz with just 368 MB of Memory, Never crashes or generates any Random Problems.
well this machines visible part of its job is Collecting tons of dust from the room, and burn it along the CRT backside, but its standing this unlikely pourpose very well ;-)
iMac G4 LCD (slight, timeless)
This machine did serve my day by day Production, coding, surfing, collecting music and programming work for many Years, and is still in top condition and give my white desk (YEAH it`s white) a really Classy Look ;-)
Running without any Upgrades (800Mhz / 512MB Ram)
just like out of the shop.
okay Photoshop or webbrowsing on complex websites with loads of Javascripts or flash getting trough like Glued, but well thats fine for a machine like this.
a PC must be Stable and Reliable this days,
the iMac G4 Lcd does this perfectly,
it still running the latest updates (10.5.6 (well it did ;-] ))
and is also a optical benefit to the room, here is how its look like a while ago in the Appartment in Bangkok Noi
the next thing on the Shopping list (long overdue) is, of course, a next Generation iMac with G5 CPU, sadly there are no more Motorola CPU`s on the row in Mac`s so it`s gonna be a Intel Based iMac.
